Saturday Nigh Live - Chandelier
Magenta Field custom designed and fabricated a Dichroic Prismatic Chandelier for NBC’s Saturday Night Live, which was premiered for Dua Lipia’s performance in 2018. These chandeliers were developed in Collaboration with the late Phil Hymes, who was the senior lighting designer of the show.
The Chandelier is designed to be a large scale refraction device that both illuminates and disperses light across the stage. The dichroic film takes a selectively pass of light refracting a small range of colors while reflecting other colors. The light from a white light source is filtered to produce light that is perceived to be highly saturated in color. When combined with a prismatic glass form, the prisms themselves glow with the vibrant colors. The casing of the lamp was fabricated from water jet steel and coated in brass to provide a polished geometric finish.
